2026’s Summer Movie Season Is Already Wild, and 2025’s Hasn’t Even Happened Yet

Steven Spielberg, seen here on the set of West Side Story, just moved his next movie to avoid some heavy hitters.

We’re still a few months from the 2025 summer movie season but many of us already have our eyes on 2026. That’s because while Superman, Jurassic World, and the Fantastic Four are cool, they’re not as cool as the Avengers, Star Wars, Steven Spielberg, Spider-Man, and Christopher Nolan.

Looking ahead, 2026 has the potential to be one of those summers we remember for the rest of our lives, but since it’s obviously still over a year out, things are still very much in flux. Case in point, hours after we got our first look at Matt Damon as the star of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, we learned Steven Spielberg’s untitled event film is changing release dates to give itself some breathing room from Disney’s geeky giants, Avengers: Doomsday and The Mandalorian and Grogu.

Spielberg’s film, starring Josh O’Connor and Emily Blunt and rumored to be sci-fi, was supposed to come out between those two titles on May 15, 2026, but now will be out June 12, 2026. As a result, the new film from Everything Everywhere All at Once Oscar winners the Daniels, which was originally set for June 12, has been taken off the schedule, though that’s still happening and will get a new date soon.

So, as it stands, here are some of those 2026 summer highlights:

  • Avengers: Doomsday – May 1, 2026
  • The Mandalorian and Grogu – May 22, 2026
  • Untitled Steven Spielberg Sci-Fi Event Movie – June 12, 2026
  • Scary Movie 6 – June 12, 2026
  • Toy Story 5 – June 19, 2026
  • Supergirl: World of Tomorrow – June 26, 2026
  • The Odyssey – July 17, 2026
  • Spider-Man 4 – July 24, 2026

That’s only a sampling too. Plus, of course, a few of these (Avengers, Spielberg, Spider-Man) haven’t even started filming yet, so things will absolutely change in the next year, while several other new, exciting projects are sure to join the party. But even just that list of films already, for our money, has 2025 beat. Do you agree?

The 2025 summer movie season starts May 2 with the release of Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts. Other highlights include James Gunn’s Superman, Gareth Edwards’ Jurassic World Rebirth, Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.
