Brody Jenner’s body took weeks to recover after he passed selection on Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test.
“As soon as I left the show, I was really ill for two weeks, just in bed eating, trying to just nurse my health back,” Jenner, 41, told Entertainment Weekly in an interview published on Wednesday, February 5. “I was in rough shape after. I lost a bunch of weight. And it’s a rough experience to put your body through, for sure.”
Jenner and Kayla Nicole were the only two contestants to pass season 3 of Special Forces. At the beginning of the episode on Wednesday, Cam Newton, Golden Tate and Alana Blanchard were also still standing — but failed interrogation. (The season originally began with 16 recruits.)
While talking with the outlet, Jenner pointed to a specific task on day six or seven of the show that may have contributed to his condition. The group jumped into a trough of water and did bear crawls in dirt, which Jenner called “one of those hard fitness tests that they did at nighttime.”
“Cam and everybody else had been washing all their dirty gear in that water for days and days and days,” Jenner said. “I mean, that water, when you walked by it … you could smell that water. It was disgusting.”
Jenner recalled having a strong physical reaction to the exercise — but he didn’t let his health be a barrier in passing Special Forces.
“I woke up, my eyes were sealed shut. My throat was just on fire, and I got really sick for the remainder of the show,” Jenner said. “So all of a sudden I came down [with something], but I didn’t complain. I banged it out, and luckily it didn’t move into my lungs until after I left. So it was really in my sinuses and in my face, and I just got through it. And then when I left, my body was really able to just get sick. I think the adrenaline and wanting to make it to the end kind of suppressed the sickness.”
While the show was physically challenging, Brody also recalled being vulnerable while speaking with the DS (Directing Staff), who asked him questions about his family — including Caitlyn Jenner.
“When I signed up, I had watched the previous seasons. I know that they get you in that room and they become human, and they bring these things out of you,” Jenner said. “And to be honest, you’re in a very vulnerable state…. You’re not sleeping. You’re getting so physically exhausted. You’re kind of out of it. And then when you get into the room with these guys, the DS, and they really become human all of a sudden, I mean, you want to just release things. It’s weird. It is just — things come out without you even knowing.”
Through the experience, Brody shared that he and his fellow recruits have kept in close contact. Nicole, for her part, exclusively told Us Weekly that the contestants all have a group chat.
“We’ve kept close. … We watch the shows together virtually, so it’s been great,” Nicole, 33, said, adding that Christy Carlson Romano is the most active in the chat. “She’s really good at all the social media things and she’s sending us TikToks that she’s made of us. She’s great.”
