Henry Garcia says Devin Haney’s injured jaw from his loss to Ryan Garcia last April could be vulnerable to getting hurt again in his next fight against Jose Ramirez. If that happens, it’ll mess up the plans for Devin to fight Ryan in October.

Jaw Vulnerability

Devin never admitted that he’d suffered a jaw injury, but it was hard not to notice with the right side of his jaw looking like he’d been hit with a baseball bat.

“When your jaw looks like it’s been broken, it’s something you have to be careful with because you jaw can only take so much of a beating,” said Henry Garcia to MillCity Boxing, talking about Devin Haney suffering a jaw injury in his loss to Ryan Garcia on April 20th last year.

“His jaw was either broken or shattered. You seen it. When blood comes out of your mouth, something is up. Most likely, it’s your jaw. If they [Team Haney] didn’t admit to it or hid it or whatever, Ryan told me he cracked him. You guys seen it.”

The right side of Haney’s jaw looked badly swollen after the fight with Ryan Garcia last April, courtesy of the left hooks that he was catching him with all night. Coming back from 12 rounds of getting hit by those shots won’t be easy for him when he takes on former WBC and WBO light welterweight champion Jose Ramirez in May.

Bill Haney should have listened to Ryan and pulled Devin out of the fight in the later rounds because he was soaking up a beating. He had no chance of winning and was getting clobbered.

“The doctors have to protect the fighters now. The doctors got to say, ‘You’re suspended because you got to heal,” said Henry about Haney’s jaw. “Once that’s been lifted, your in the clear, but like I said. Once you crack that egg once, it’s very susceptible to cracking again. It’s not as hard to crack it anymore.”

If Haney’s jaw is fragile now, Jose Ramirez will expose that defect and spoil the rematch plans. If Devin loses and is injured again, he’s going to need time to heal, and he’ll be food for Ryan if he does face him in October.

“So, you got to be very careful. It’s already been signed. You can’t go back on it,” said Henry Garcia when asked if he thinks well see the Ryan Garcia vs. Devin Haney rematch. “We’ve already signed for the fight. It was Pitbull at first, and now it’s Rolly. We got approval with Turki Al-Sheikh. Things are already moving. We’re ready. It’s been lifted.

“For Haney, they signed for [Jose] Ramirez. So everything is set. All I’m saying is be careful because the guy [Ramirez] can pack a punch. I’ve seen him spar before. The guy is no joke and the guy is what you call a true warrior,” said Henry.

It wouldn’t be surprising if Bill Haney wanted a weaker opponent for Devin to fight than Ramirez, but he was given no choice. Turki Al-Sheikh insists on his cards having quality fights because it’s bad look for him if he’s indulging the fighters by letting them fight ham & eggers.
