John Legend was on the boot-cut jeans trend long before Kendrick Lamar.
Chrissy Teigen took to Instagram on Monday, February 10, to show a clip of Legend, 46, rocking a pair of similar jeans while dancing around his house. His blues featured the same subtle flare from the knee to the ankle, complete with early aughts distressed rip detail. Legend completed the look with clean white sneakers and a mint-green polo shirt.
In the background of the clip, Legend could be seen screaming that someone “stole his pants,” before Teigen, 39, panned to him and laughed hysterically.
“Dead that we all roast John for his flared jeans and then the coolest guy in the world had them on for his SUPER BOWL HALFTIME SHOW,” Teigen captioned the post, referencing Lamar’s iconic performance at the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Philadelphia Eagles game in New Orleans on the previous Sunday.
While rapping his most popular tracks, Lamar slayed in a pair of Celine boot-cut pants that were a marked departure from the seasons-long trend of men and women rocking extra-wide denim silhouettes. The Grammy-winning singer sported a light-wash pair that took the internet by storm.. Styled by Taylor McNeill, Lamar elevated his look with a custom Martine Rose “Gloria” leather jacket, referencing his hit with SZA, who made a cameo during the performance (along with a crip-walking Serena Williams).

The rapper made sure to shine under the spotlight with his diamond bling, including a bedazzled lowercase ‘a’ necklace, seemingly a nod to his Drake-inspired diss track “Not Like Us,” in which he raps, “Tryna strike a chord and it’s probably A-minor.” Lamar coupled the chain, which has been estimated at $400,000, with a similarly blinged-out diamond ring ($500,000), a $30,000 marquise-cut pinon his baseball cap and a $50,000 pendant.
But it was his look below the waist that truly won the 2025 Super Bowl, leaving no doubt that boot-cuts, like the ones Legend has long been a fan of, are back in a big way.
