This is the world of Suits, of course there was a sports joke — and yes, Us is sharing Suits LA premiere episode spoilers.

The first episode of Suits LA aired on Sunday, February 23, and introduced fans to the world of Los Angeles and their most ruthless lawyers with Stephen Amell starring as Ted Black — who gets betrayed by his firm’s cofounder, Stuart Lane (Josh McDermitt), within the first 19 minutes.

But let’s back up a bit. Before Stuart betrays Ted, he takes on Lester Thompson’s (Kevin Weisman) murder case — much to Lester’s chagrin. Ted convinces Lester that Stuart is “the best defense attorney in Los Angeles” and the subject is dropped. (Remember, this was before Stuart’s betrayal, so the subject does come up again.)

Once it’s revealed that Stuart decided to merge with Ted’s ex-girlfriend Samantha’s (Rachelle Goulding) firm solo, the topic of Lester gets brought up again. This time, Ted is convincing Lester to take him on as his lawyer for the murder trial.

“There is nothing in this world Stuart Lane is better at than me. Lester, he doesn’t believe you. I do,” Ted said. “It’s the fourth quarter and you need a touchdown. You can go with Kirk Cousins or Patrick Mahomes, who’s it gonna be.”

Suits LA creators found ways to connect the series’ characters — specifically Stephen Amell‘s Ted Black — to the beloved original series. Obviously, Lester goes with Ted.

While the show is definitely different from the original Suits, there are some notable similarities, sports being one of them. The OG show’s Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) was a huge NBA fan with signed basketballs from various athletes in his office. Aside from the NFL reference made by Ted, it seems he loves the New York Yankees — and that seems like it will play a part as the show continues.

It’s revealed that Ted went to a Yankees game with his father (Matt Letscher) and younger brother Eddie (Carson A. Egan) as a kid. From the sound of it, their dad didn’t have the best relationship with Eddie, which makes Ted resent him. (There’s definitely more to this story.)

David Astorga/NBC As if there wasn’t enough anticipation around NBC’s Suits LA, the legal drama is bringing in some familiar faces — including a cameo or two from the original cast. Set in a fictional New York City corporate law firm, the original Suits followed associate lawyer Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams), who started working […]

Oh, did we mention that Ted speaks to his brother — who is in a Yankees shirt throughout the episode — before it’s revealed that Eddie is actually dead. This is revealed in a rather tense moment between Ted and his father, who is on his death bed.

“After you got convicted, you told me that on your last night of freedom, all you wanted to do was spend it with me,” Ted said. “But when that day came, you let them kill Eddie. My sweet beautiful brother who never hurt a soul in his life. You said you did it to protect me but you didn’t even show up at his funeral. He was your son.”
