Bill Murray has finally confirmed whether or not he ever dated ‘Milkshake’ singer Kelis.
“I met this girl named Kelis. I got great press that I was dating her. That really raised my cred a lot,” the Ghostbusters star, 74, joked during an interview with Sirius XM’s Sway in the Morning on Friday, February 28.
Murray revealed to host Sway that Kelis, 45, first caught his eye in the music video for Ol’ Dirty Bastard‘s 1999 hit “Got Your Money,” which featured a guest vocal from the singer.
“I’m going: ‘Who is the girl with the red hair?’ And it was Kelis, so I decided to meet her sometime. She turns out to be spectacular,” the actor recalled.
Murray confirmed that, despite press reports to the contrary, he never actually dated Kelis — but that doesn’t mean he’s ruling out the possibility of a potential tryst in the future.

“You know, one of us could be on the rebound any second,” he joked. “Anything could happen.”
The comedy legend added that he was recently in touch with Kelis after learning that she’d purchased land in Kenya.
“She just out there and says, ‘Maybe I’ll move to Africa and start a farm,’” Murray noted.
Kelis and Murray were first rumored to be romantically linked in June 2023, when he was spotted attending her set at the Mighty Hoopla music festival in London. Later that month, Kelis was quizzed on the dating rumors during a fan Q&A via Instagram.
A fan asked the singer: “Ma’am would you care to address these Bill Murray allegations?!? Cuz damn! What he doing with all that?!”
Kelis coyly replied: “LOL no babe, I wouldn’t bother at all.”
Kelis was married to hip-hop superstar Nas for seven years between 2003 and 2010, during which time they had a son named Knight. She wed photographer Mike Mora in 2014, and they later welcomed son Shepard and daughter Galilee.
Mora tragically died from stage IV stomach cancer in 2022 after being first diagnosed with the disease two years earlier.
A statement from Kelis at the time read: “After a tough two-year battle with cancer, we are devastated to have to confirm the loss of our beloved brother Mike. An amazing father, husband, and friend who gave so genuinely and cared so deeply for his family and friends. Through this difficult period, we ask that you respect the privacy of Kelis and her family at this time.”
Murray has been married twice before, to Margaret Kelly from 1981 to 1996 and Jennifer Butler from 1997 to 2008. The actor has two sons, Homer and Luke, from his first marriage and four sons – Caleb, Jackson, Cooper, and Lincoln – from his second marriage. Butler died in 2021.
