Macaulay Culkin and Brenda Song aren’t raising Kevin McAllister — no matter what 3-year-old son Dakota thinks.
Song, 36, revealed during the couple’s first-ever joint interview with Cosmopolitan that she and Culkin, 44, have been watching Home Alone with Dakota and 2-year-old son Carson for the past two years. Their eldest son has grown quite attached to the 1990 film, she explained.
“Dakota thinks that he’s Kevin McCallister,” Song said in the interview published on Monday, January 27. “And Mack will jokingly ask, ‘Do you remember you did that scene?’ And he goes, ‘Yeah!’”
They also asked Dakota if he remembers dying his hair blonde for the role.
“He’s like, ‘Yep, I do,’” Culkin added. “Boy, I’m raising a liar.”
Song and Culkin met in 2014 but things “didn’t go … great,” Culkin recalled. However, they met a second time in 2017 while filming the movie Changeland and formed a major connection.
“I’d never felt this way before,” Culkin recalled. “I believed in her. I mean, I believed in people before, but I believed in her down to my bone marrow. You know what I mean? I put it behind the armor though, behind that shield.”
The pair have been together for almost a decade — and are engaged — there are no wedding bells in their future just yet.
“We talked about eloping,” Song shared. “But I was like, ‘If we eloped, my mom would have a heart attack that she wasn’t going to be there.’”
For now, the duo are content with their family the way that it is, with two kids that totally embody the best of both Culkin and Song. In fact, Dakota is so much like Culkin, it’s no wonder the little one thinks he’s Kevin McAllister.
“Carson walks on his tippy-toes, like me,” Culkin explained to Cosmo. “And DakDak is a stomper.”
Brenda chimed in, adding, “Like me.”
The couple also spoke candidly about the low-key nature of their relationship. It was never their intention to keep things quiet, it just kind of happened that way — especially after they started having kids.
“That the public is like, ‘Wait, they’re together and they have kids?’ Good,” Culkin joked. “That means we did our job.”
To be fair, Song often felt the same when she first started dating the former child star.
“There was a point in time where I was like, ‘I must be in a simulation! I have two children with Macaulay Culkin!’” she quipped.
