Drew Barrymore and Martha Stewart have come a long way!
The talk show host, 49, went viral last November when Stewart, 83, playfully pushed her away during an interview on The Drew Barrymore Show. However, according to Barrymore, the moment was all in good fun.
“I think she was just teasing,” the Charlie’s Angels star said on the Wednesday, February 5, episode of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen. “I think the internet just misunderstood the moment and ran with it,” she later added.
Barrymore went on to reveal that she now considers Stewart a friend — which wasn’t always the case.
“I’ve never been able to say this before with confidence, but I can now, I think Martha really does like me,” the star said.
Barrymore continued, “When I was first getting to know her, I was like, ‘I don’t think she likes me.’ But I think I broke through … she doesn’t dislike me.”
Barrymore and Stewart had a playful moment in November while discussing how Stewart likes to be treated by romantic partners. Stewart admitted that “soft and gooey” shows of affection work on her. “When you’re treated like a lady,” Barrymore said, stroking Stewart’s arm in the process. Stewart then batted Barrymore’s hand away and joked, “You’re the wrong gender.”
Barrymore is known for getting up close and personal with guests on The Drew Barrymore Show. Speaking to WWHL host Andy Cohen, the talk show host said she usually sits “pupil to pupil” with her guests. “I don’t know [why]. I can’t actually control it,” she said of her signature interviewing style.
Actress Valerie Bertinelli recently complimented Barrymore on her “touchy-feely” interviewing technique.
“Do not apologize for being so authentic,” Bertinelli told Barrymore during a January episode of The Drew Barrymore Show. “I mean, touch is what keeps us connected. Communication is what keeps us in. You are communicating and touching. You are doing your job. That’s what you’re here on this Earth to do.”
Barrymore also referenced her tendency to touch people during an episode of her show in December 2024.
“I’m so touchy,” the host admitted. “People have to warn me, they’re like, ‘Back off a little bit.’ And I’m like, ‘Why?’”
Barrymore explained that perhaps her current relationship status was behind the desire for human touch.
“Because physical connection — you know, I’m single, I’m not dating anyone,” Barrymore added. “I don’t have that in my life but I don’t know how I would ever hold back from holding hands, hugging, snuggling.”
