Jason Isaacs Addresses ‘Double Standard’ of Full Frontal Scenes

Jason Isaacs knows that every The White Lotus fan can’t stop talking about his jaw-dropping full frontal scene.

“A lot of people are debating [if I’m wearing a prosthetic] and it’s all over the internet,” Isaacs, 61, said on the Friday, March 14, episode of CBS Mornings. “It’s interesting because the best actress this year was Mikey Madison at the Oscars — and I don’t see anyone discussing her vulva, which was on television all the time.”

He added, “I think it’s interesting that there’s a double standard for men. When women are naked, [also like] Margaret Qualley in The Substance, nobody would dream of talking to her about her genitalia or nipples or anything of those things.”

After the CBS anchors asked if he was dodging cohost Gayle King’s question about wearing a prosthetic penis, Isaacs concurred.

Theo James, Dakota Johnson and more actors have opened up about their nude scenes — and broke down the experience of going full frontal. James raised eyebrows with his performance as Cameron during season 2 of The White Lotus, particularly in a memorable scene where Harper (Aubrey Plaza) accidentally snuck a peek at Cameron (James) […]

“It is a dodge because I don’t think people really want to know how the sausage is made,” the British actor quipped. “That’s why. … I genuinely think it would be odd [because] there are some of the women’s characters who are naked [and] you would never dream of discussing. Not for a second.”

Isaacs shared similar sentiments during another Friday appearance on Good Day New York when host Rosanna Scotto proclaimed that she “wasn’t going to go there” and mention his nude scene.

“Let me ask you this: If you had a woman on here, would you be very keen on talking about her downstairs area?” Isaacs replied. “Would you ever talk to an actress about it? I don’t think you would. I think it’s a terrible double standard.”

Isaacs once again cited Madison and Qualley’s respective performances in Anora and The Substance as his reasons for staying mum.

Bravo fans who thought the Ratliff family from The White Lotus feel familiar are onto something. Sam Nivola, who plays the youngest member of the Ratliffs, confirmed to People on Sunday, February 23, that creator Mike White instructed that they watch Southern Charm, which has aired on Bravo since 2014 and it chronicles the personal […]

I’ve watched all their interviews and no one’s ever asked them about their body parts,” he said.

Ever since Isaacs’ character bared it all on the show, he’s been asked about the experience.

“Yeah, it is now in my contract for every show I do, so we’ll see,” he joked to Entertainment Weekly earlier this month. “It’ll get easier, hopefully.”

Speaking to the outlet, Isaacs revealed how the same came to be.

“He’s drugging himself into a stupor to try not to think about the fact that his entire life is blowing up and trying to work out what to do about it,” Isaacs explained. “It was actually quite challenging — I remember reading the scripts thinking, ‘Wow, I’ve got to keep my powder dry for five or six episodes, and then this s— really kicks off.’”

New episodes of The White Lotus air on HBO Sundays at 9 p.m. ET.
