Keith Thurman says Shakur Stevenson lacks the names on his weak resume to deserve a fight against Gervonta Davis. Thurman states that the “resume isn’t there” for WBC lightweight champion Shakur (23-0, 11 KOs) even to consider him as an opponent for Tank Davis.

Keith notes that the media want to see Shakur and Tank fight, but he doesn’t know why. Thurman views that as “fantasy football” because Stevenson hasn’t been through the fire yet. He doesn’t have even one dog on his resume, to where one could say he’s proven himself.

Shakur’s Wins

– Edwin De Los Santos: Boo-filled fight of running
– Jamel Herring: 35
– Oscar Valdez: Washed up
– Artem Harutyunyan: Light-hitter coming off loss
– Josh Padley: Electrician
– Joet Gonzalez: Fringe contender

The Product

Thurman is right. Shakur is an example of how promoters carefully maneuver fighters, keeping them away from risky opposition to manufacture a product with the goal of one big cash-out.

Once they get exposed in a blowout loss, the promoters either dump them or put them through a rebuild against the same lesser opposition to inflate their resume for another cash-out. It’s all trickery to fool the public, selling a lemon to naive fans with no critical thinking ability.

The slick promoters are creating a product when they feed weak opposition to fighters like Shakur Stevenson, building a resume in hopes of getting that one big payoff fight against stars like Gervonta Davis to make it worthwhile signing him.

“I still don’t think Shakur has beaten people like Tank. Shakur hasn’t even been in with Isaac Cruz. I get it on some boxing level stuff, but I really don’t get it,” said Keith Thurman to Fighthype, criticizing Shakur Stevenson as being underequipped for a fight against Gervonta Davis.

Who’s He Fought?

Shakur hasn’t beaten killers like Andy Cruz, Raymond Muratalla, Abdullah Mason, Ernesto Mercado, or William Zepeda. Have you ever wondered why he’s not been matched against any of those fighters? It’s obvious. Stevenson’s promoters are protecting him to ramp him up for a big payday that he doesn’t deserve, and the media are too dense to know what’s happening.

“Do something. What have you done? Who have you fought? Who have you beaten? Tank has got names,” said Thurman. “He’s been in the fire. I don’t think Shakur has been in the fire. I think his matchmaking has been way weaker than just resumes. People see his skills. I get it, but word on the street is that boy has been slapped.”

$200 Million?

I totally agree with Thurman. Someone slapped the taste out of Shakur’s mouth, and that’s why he’s hounding Gervonta Davis 24/7, pushing him for a fight like his life depended on it. Why isn’t Shakur calling out Mercado, Andy Cruz, Muratalla, Mason or Zepeda? How about his brother, Keyshawn Davis. Why not him? Shakur said today he wants $200 million for a fight against Keyshawn. What does that tell you?

“It’s really hard for boxers like that. He’s going to have to box, box, box, box. Just like the controversial Haney had with Ryan. Haney is a great boxer. Shakur is nice but is he the nicest? If you want to find out if he’s the nicest, you’ve got to put him in with somebody that drops bombs like isis. You handle them bombs, then let’s see.

“Go through some dogs. Go through a few good names on the list. He’s [Shakur] small. I don’t think him and Rolly [would work]. Rolly is too big. The resumes not there. I don’t ever think about him and Tank. You guys [the media] do, but I don’t know why. It’s like some fantasy football bull s***. I don’t think it’s real.

“I don’t think he’s done a lot. Just one. Put one on the resume. I would like two. Two good names on the resume before stepping to Tank,” said Thurman about wanting to see Shakur take on two good fighters to prove himself before facing Tank Davis.
