Kelly Ripa and her husband, Mark Consuelos, are getting real about the biggest “dealbreaker” in their decades-long marriage.
During the Tuesday, February 11, episode of Live With Kelly and Mark, the couple debated whether romantic pairs should share their respective locations.
“No, the last thing I want to know is where you are at all times,” Ripa, 54, stated, noting she and Consuelos, 53, don’t keep track of one another’s whereabouts. “I don’t need to know that. I know where you are here and that’s enough for me.”
Consuelos, meanwhile, pointed out that he’s usually “upstairs in [his] den” whenever Ripa is looking for him.
“I think it’s a little weird if somebody asks you — if you’re dating and they ask you for your location,” Consuelos added. “It’s something that I think the person should offer to you. ‘Hey, I’m going to share my location with you.’”
Ripa was curious why her partner “would need to know” details about her location in the first place.
“Where do they think you are though? I can tell them where you are,” she said. “To me, it’s a dealbreaker for me if you need to know where I am. I’m where I told you I am, and you don’t need to know anything.”
While Ripa doesn’t need Consuelos to track her location on a daily basis, there is a certain benefit to sharing certain details.
“I got lost once. I was hiking [and] I got lost,” Ripa recalled. “I went hiking by myself in Colorado and he said, ‘Don’t do it,’ and I said, ‘I know where I am,’ and of course, I got lost. And Mark said, ‘Share your location with me’ and this is where it was a generational divide where I became my grandmother. Mark was like, ‘Share your location with me and I’ll guide you home,’ but I could not do that.”
She added, “You walked me through it, but it was very stressful for us.”
Ripa and Consuelos have been together since 1995 after meeting on the set of All My Children where they played love interests. The pair eloped the following year before their son Michael was born in 1997. Daughter Lola and son Joaquin followed in 2001 and 2003, respectively.
Both before and after all three kids left the nest, Ripa and Consuelo have been candid about their lasting relationship and working together.
“The thing I love about Mark is how funny he is,” Ripa exclusively told Us Weekly in April 2023 when he joined her as Live cohost, replacing Ryan Seacrest. “The advice I gave him was to just keep being yourself, enjoy every moment and be present. He took it from there.”
