Keyshawn Davis says he wants to fight WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis in a unification fight next after he “knocks out” WBO 135-lb champion Denys Berinchyk in the first round this Friday night, February 14th, at Madison Square Garden Theater in New York.
Davis (12-0, 8 KOs) doubts that Tank will fight him because he feels he lacks the courage to face him. Keyshawn says if he won’t fight him, he wants to defend the WBO belt that he captures from Berinchyk against Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz next. Referring to himself as ‘The Businessman, Davis states that a clash between him and Pitbull would be huge and make both of them a lot of money.
When asked if he’d be interested in fighting Andy Cruz, a fighter who beat him four times in the amateurs, Keyshawn said he has no interest because he lacks a fan base and is “two notches” below him.
Star Status?
Listening to Keyshawn talk, what is quite clear is he’s highly narcissistic, bordering on being delusional. His prediction of a first-round knockout of Berinchyk sounds wacky. Keyshawn says he’s a “star” in his culture, which is absolutely not true. He’s not a star. He’s an unproven prospect with 12 fights who looked below average in fights against Miguel Madueno and Nahir Albright. Keyshawn refuses to fight Andy Cruz, and fans view him as afraid. He’s seen as a hype job that Top Rank is manufacturing, as they did with Edgar Berlanga when he was with the company.
“After I knock Berinchyk out in the first round, I would love to fight the ‘face of boxing’ in the 135-lb division. I would love to fight ‘light skin’ [Gervonta Davis]. You know who it is,” said Keyshawn Davis to Fight Hub TV about wanting to face Gervonta Davis next if he’s victorious against WBO lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk this Friday night.
“I just don’t think he’s [Tank Davis] got the balls to fight me. Our characters matchup. He knows I’m not going for none of that s*** inside and outside the ring. People know me by now just like they know him. So, I really don’t think he has the balls to send me a contract to fight me.
“Tank, I don’t care if he gets in the ring or not. I’m creating my own lane as ‘The Businessman,” said Keyshawn. “I was 11-0, fighting in my hometown [Norfolk, Virginia]. I did a million gate. That’s just the first time fighting in my crib…People know me. That didn’t come from fighting big names. That just came from me performing and people liking what I come with. So, f*** Tank. I don’t need Tank, bro. I would love to fight him, but I’m not out here pushing for no Tank fight. He’s so unpredictable.”
Tank likely won’t waste time with Keyshawn because he can see what he’s all about: a carefully maneuvered fighter who is just looking to get a payday that he doesn’t deserve. There’s a whole bunch of contenders in the lightweight division that want to face Tank Davis for the life-changing money they’ll get fighting him, and Keyshawn is just another one of the many. The difference with Keyshawn is that he’s being pushed hard by Top Rank, carefully moved like a chess piece on a chessboard. He’s not going to be matched against anyone that can beat him, like Andy Cruz, until he gets that cash-out fight against someone. If not Tank, little 5’4″ Pitbull Cruz will be enticed to fight him.
Tank Diss
“I don’t know what light skin is going to do. I’m out here doing what I need to do for my family and for myself,” said Keyshawn about Gervonta Davis. “No, I don’t,” said Keyshawn when asked if he “likes” Gervonta Davis. “He has a feminine way. His character is so left-field that I don’t f*** with him at all. It’s the same thing with light skin. I’m just waiting for him to send me a contract.”
As you can see here, Keyshawn is intentionally trying to anger Gervonta to make him want to fight him. It’s so transparent what he’s doing, and it’s not going to work. If Keyshawn wants that fight, he’s going to have to earn it by running the gauntlet against these six:

“I feel like with me and him, it’s easier because everyone knows who the A-side is. I feel like it’s an easy fight to make. It’s easy to promoting it. Davis vs Davis. Which Davis do you got. It’s just up to him growing balls to fight me. Yes, for sure. Those opponents would say the same thing,” said Keyshawn when told that he would be the most talented Tank will have faced in his career.
“They know me. Lamont Roach knows me. I f*** with Ryan Garcia. They know me since the amateurs. I was that kid that was causing havoc. It’s no big deal that I’m at this point right now.
Pitbull Pursuit
“If I can’t get that fight, if he doesn’t send me a contract, I would love to fight Isaac Cruz. I feel that’s something fans would go crazy over for real,” said Keyshawn about wanting to fight former WBA light welterweight champion ‘Pitbull’ Cruz, who has looked average in his last two fights, losing to Jose ‘Rayo’ Valenzuela and barely beating Angel Fierro.
“Keyshawn Davis vs. Isaac Cruz, I feel that’s a Las Vegas fight. We’re not fighting in no theater. We’re fighting in an arena. Everybody will show up for that fight. So, I feel me defending my [WBO lightweight] world title even if we have to do a catchweight [making it light welterweight contender with no title].
“He’s going to get paid, I’m going to get paid. So, it don’t got to be too much about the belt. People want to get paid. We’re both getting paid; we’re fighting in Vegas. That’s a fight that is going to build both of our careers up. I think it makes a lot of sense. I can’t give you too much,” said Keyshawn when asked how his fight with Pitbull Cruz would go. “I got to concentrate on Berinchyk. I would love to fight him after I stop Berinchyk in the first round.
“He’s [Cruz] a star in his culture. I’m a star in my culture, and I’m going to be more of a star after I knock Berinchyk out in the first round. So, I think that fight makes a lot of sense for sure.
