Eric Dane has family by his side as he navigates a new normal amid his ongoing health battle.
“I have been diagnosed with ALS,” Dane announced in April 2025. “I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.”
His statement continued: “I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to [the] set of Euphoria next week. I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”
Dane’s ALS battle was revealed hours after his wife, Rebecca Gayheart, filed to dismiss her divorce filing, seven years after they initially separated. (Dane and Gayheart, who married in 2004, share two daughters.)

While Dane hasn’t publicly discussed the ups and downs with Gayheart, she spoke candidly about their coparenting relationship.
“Not going to lie, it hasn’t been easy. But I think what’s exciting is what’s ahead because there are so many different things that could happen now,” she said during a 2019 interview. “My ex Eric and I, we are friends and we are doing our best to coparent and maintain a family, even though we’re not married. Legally we’re still married but separated.”

William Melvin
Dane’s father died of a gunshot wound when he was 7 years old.
“My grandmother thinks it was an accident,” Dane shared with the Gulf Times in 2014. “Everybody’s got a different opinion on it.”
During the same interview, Dane explained how his father’s death ended up having a profound impact on his life.
“I never realized how cognizant and aware I was at the time until I had my own kids and I see how cogent Billie is at the age of 4 and think, ‘My God, this must have been devastating at the age of 7,’” he recalled. “The awareness that I would’ve had at that age must’ve been devastating.”
Rebecca Gayheart
Dane married Gayheart in 2004 and they welcomed two daughters during their marriage. In February 2018, she filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences. The pair were separated for seven years before Gayheart filed to dismiss her divorce petition in April 2025.

Billie Dane
Eric and Gayheart welcomed their eldest daughter, Billie Beatrice, in March 2010.
“[Billie’s] named after my father,” Eric said during a 2016 interview. “Whether it was a boy or a girl, the firstborn was gonna be a Billie.”
Georgia Dane
Their second daughter, Georgia Geraldine, was born in December 2011.
