It’s Sussex — Meghan Sussex. Meghan Markle clarified her last name in an honest conversation with Mindy Kaling.

In her new Netflix show With Love, Meghan — which premieres on the streaming platform on Tuesday, March 4 — Meghan, 43, says she was a “latchkey kid” who “grew up with a lot of fast food and TV tray meals” watching Jeopardy. Her favorite fast foods included Pollo Loco, Taco Bell’s Mexican pizza and Jack-in-the-Box tacos — which Meghan’s mom, Doria Ragland, also loved.

As Kaling, 45 — who became “email pen pals” with Meghan as they bonded over kids and motherhood — began marveling that “Meghan Markle loves Jack-in-the-Box,” Meghan delicately interjected to correct her friend.

“It’s so funny you keep saying Markle,” Meghan said. “You know it’s Sussex now. You have kids and you go, I share my name with my children. I didn’t know how meaningful it would be to me but it just means so much to go, this is our family name. Our little family now.”

Kaling, for her part, replied, “Now I know and I love it.”

Meghan and husband Prince Harry were given the Sussex name by Queen Elizabeth II on their 2018 wedding day, a moniker she called “part of our love story.” (Meghan and Harry, 40, welcomed son Archie in 2019 and daughter Lilibet in 2021.)

“It’s our shared name as a family, and I guess I hadn’t recognized how meaningful that would be to me until we had children,” she told People in an interview published on Monday, March 3. “I love that that is something that Archie, Lili, H and I all have together. It means a lot to me.”

In the eight-episode Netflix series, Meghan — who shares many anecdotes about her family dynamics — shared that she forgot to prepare food for Kaling’s visit and was cheffing up a “last minute” frittata for her. While prepping bacon, Meghan revealed that her husband is a big fan.

Mindy Kaling is shooting down what she says is a common misconception about her friend Meghan Markle. In a TIME magazine interview published on Wednesday, February 19, Kaling, 45, insisted the Duchess of Sussex is “down-to-earth.” “I think a misconception about Meghan is that she’s in any way fussy or has expectations of fanciness,” Kaling […]

“When I’m cooking bacon, my kitchen very immediately becomes full of [my] husband and three dogs … my bacon brings all the boys to the yard,” Meghan quipped in the show, while wearing neutral tones. “I take a lot of pride in making breakfast for my family. The morning’s fast, gotta get the kids to school.”

When Kaling asked the Duchess for advice on seasoning her dishes, she explains, “I have a husband who, no matter what meal is put in front of him, before he tastes it, always puts salt on. So I try to undersalt.”

“I love knowing that your husband likes it salty!” Kaling retorted.

During Kaling’s visit, Meghan offered The Office alum tips on throwing a garden tea party for her three children. “I don’t know if you go all out for your kids’ parties or not,” she asks.

“The woman I hire does,” Kaling replies.

“Great, I’ll tell you how to do it without her,” the Duchess promises. “Not that I want to take her out of a job!”

With Love, Meghan, premieres on Netflix Tuesday, March 4.
