Meryl Streep and Martin Short are taking over New York City with one live show at a time.
On Sunday, March 9, the actors were spotted attending a performance of Oh! Mary, and posed with the cast backstage. Streep, 74, and Short, 74, stood next to each other as they smiled for photos with the show’s cast. (Jennifer Lopez and Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein were in attendance as well.)
An onlooker told Us Weekly exclusively that while “there wasn’t any PDA” between Streep and Short, they “arrived together” at the show. “They were laughing together and having a great time,” the insider added.
Streep and Short’s Broadway outing came less than 24 hours after they were spotted pulling up 30 Rock in the late hours of Saturday, March 8, to check out Lady Gaga’s hosting gig on Saturday Night Live. Video footage obtained by TMZ at the time showed the rumored couple getting out of a black SUV and rushing into the building. The actors were all smiles as they greeted fans on their way in.
Neither Streep nor Short are strangers to SNL (though she shockingly has never hosted the show). In fact, the sketch comedy show seems to be a core part of their rumored romance as Streep and Short attended the SNL 50 Homecoming Concert together last month. The duo was shown in the crowd, cheering and dancing along to the various performers. When Short hosted SNL in December 2024, Streep wasn’t in attendance, but her daughter Grace Gummer was spotted in the crowd showing support — and further fueling romance rumors.
Relationship speculation between Streep and Short started in December 2023 when Time Out New York theater critic Adam Feldman hinted on social media that there were “two quite surprising celebrity couples” that continued to keep their love under wraps. Fans were quick to wonder if he was referring to Streep and Short.

“They are just very good friends, nothing more,” a rep for Short stated in January 2024, after he and Streep were spotted sitting next to each other at the Golden Globes that year to support their show Only Murders in the Building. (Months later, they were photographed holding hands at the show’s season 4 premiere.)

Streep and Short’s characters Loretta Durkin and Oliver Putnam, respectively, are in a relationship on the Hulu show.
“It was one of the great thrills of my life,” Short told The Hollywood Reporter in March 2024 about sharing the screen with Streep. “In fact, the first day of shooting — which was rare because I’m not brand new — I was driving to work and I thought, ‘I’m nervous today. I’m working with Meryl Streep.’”
