Hours after Kristin Cavallari revealed that Nate Thompson was the former NHL player that she briefly dated, the ex-Boston Bruin is speaking out — and he’s just fine with his identity being revealed.
“It’s OK. It’s fine. I knew it was only a matter of time before things became public — that’s her world, that’s what she does,” said Thompson, 40, on the Tuesday, April 1, episode of his “Energy Line” podcast. “Her podcast, obviously, as you know, is pretty big, and she talks about her relationships, so I knew it was probably gonna come out eventually.”
Cavallari, 38, revealed that she briefly dated Thompson on the Tuesday episode of her “Let’s Be Honest” Podcast, only after “f***ing detectives pieced it together” on social media. The former center took it in stride.
“She’s a cool person,” he continued. “We had a good time. Life is gonna life, and it just didn’t work out.”
Thompson also revealed that though their relationship was long-distance, he traveled to Nashville “a couple times” to see her and the two spent New Year’s together.
Cavallari explained their connection, calling it one of the “deeper relationships” she has ever had.

“He’s been retired for a couple years now. He’s a dad,” The Hills alum disclosed. “He’s someone who has done a lot of work on himself, and we really connected on such a deep level.”
“I really think he’s such a great guy,” she continued. “In a really short amount of time, we didn’t hold back anything. We told each other f***ing everything. It was the most honest, pure, amazing, quote-unquote relationship I’ve ever had.”
Cavallari, who shares kids Camden, 12, Jaxon, 10, and Saylor, 9 with ex-husband Jay Cutler, added that she didn’t consider Thompson to be a “boyfriend.” As real as the connection was, she admitted, something was missing.
“That attraction piece for me has to be so on fire for me to want to be with someone,” she said. “This guy is a perfect example of that, where I’m like, ‘Why can’t I fall in love with you?’ If I could choose who I want to fall in love with, I would pick you because you’re such an amazing guy and we are firing on all other cylinders.”
“I’m searching for my perfect,” she continued, “and because I’m so clear about what I want—I’ve waited this long, I’ve put up with a lot of bulls*** in my day—I’m just not gonna settle for anything less than exactly what I want.”
