Sean Lowe's Quotes About Rehoming Dogs After Family Pet Attacks

Sean Lowe hasn’t had the best of luck when it comes to family pets.

In April 2023, the former Bachelor revealed that he and wife Catherine Giudici had to rehome their dog, Gus. The decision came after Gus, a Bullmastiff, injured their eldest son, Samuel.

“The result was a trip to the E.R. and a staple in the head,” Lowe wrote via his Instagram Story at the time. “So, as much as I love that dog, I have to put my kids first.”

Two years after the difficult decision to give Gus a new home, Lowe and Giudici welcomed a new furry friend into their family, which includes sons Samuel and Isiah in addition to daughter Mia. In January 2025, they brought home Moose.

Sean Lowe and his wife, Catherine Giudici, are picking up the pieces after the former Bachelor was attacked by their dog, Moose. “I know with what just transpired, obviously I can’t keep Moose in this house. I’ve got young kids, and I’ve got to be concerned about my own safety, so I’m talking to our […]

“Santa and Daddy took the kids’ requests for a dog for Christmas into consideration. We are happy to add this 7 year old (we think) rescue boxer into our zoo,” Lowe wrote via Instagram at the time. “We hope he loves us as much as we have already grown to love him.”

Two months later, Lowe was rushed to the emergency room after he was attacked by Moose.

“My first thought is, ‘I think that dog may have nicked an artery,’” Lowe said in a March 2025 Instagram video. “And we have the video, which — the video is way too violent. I’m not going to share that, but you hear me saying, ‘This is serious. You got to get me to a hospital. Call Catherine.’ And I thank God that my friends were there because they were able to rush me to the ER.”

After the attack, Lowe ultimately knew he could not keep Moose in the same house as his kids following the incident. The former reality star shared he got in touch with animal control and the adoption agency to discuss the best course of action.

Why Did Sean Lowe Rehome Gus?

Lowe revealed that he and Giudici gave up ownership of Gus after multiple instances of aggression with their little ones.

“Y’all know how much I loved that dog and he was such a great dog. Great with the kids, well-trained and he was so full of love. However, he showed a couple instances of resource guarding in the past when he snapped at/bit Mia,” Lowe wrote via his Instagram Stories in April 2023. “We did everything in our power to keep it from happening again but one night several weeks ago, [our son] Samuel bent down to pet Gus, and Gus bit him on the side of the head.”

Where Did Gus Go?

Lowe and Giudici found a “great” new home for Gus with the pair’s dog trainer.

“He gets to go to work everyday and be around other dogs. She texted me the other day and said this [one] pug hates all dogs except for Gus,” he wrote via his Story. “Must be the close resemblance.”

Did Sean Lowe Want Another Dog After Gus?

When asked if he wanted to get a new pup anytime soon, Lowe didn’t think it was the right idea to move on so quickly.

“It’d feel like I was cheating on Gus if we got one anytime soon,” he wrote via social media at the time.

Lowe and Giudici waited two years before they brought home Moose.

Lowe was attacked by their new family dog Moose, nearly three months after they rescued him.

“I was having some friends of mine over to barbecue. Catherine took the kids to the mall, and we’re just barbecuing here on my patio, and it was a really nice night, so I had the doors and windows open, and some of the smoke from the barbecue started to drift inside, and our smoke alarm started going off,” Lowe recalled during a March 2025 Instagram video. “So I grab a dish rag and I’m going over to waft the smoke away from the smoke alarm, because the siren was insanely loud. And as I’m holding the dish rag, Moose comes up and, like, bites it and kind of nips my finger really aggressively, which is something that he does not do. So, you know, I kind of gave him a, ‘No Moose.’”

Despite giving Moose a firm “no,” Lowe explained that Moose began biting his feet so hard that there were “holes” in his shoes.

“At this point again, there’s so much chaos going on with the alarm going off, I give him, like, a very stern, like, ‘Moose. No. No.’ And it was right about that moment where he shows his teeth at me and just attacks me, and I don’t mean like bite and run off like a lot of dogs do when they’re scared or defensive. I mean, attacks me, and I feel him just kind of ripping into the flesh of my arm,” he reflected. “And at this point, I am doing everything I possibly can just to fend this dog off.”

Lowe revealed that Moose attacked him for a “second time” after being put in a different area.

“[I’m] not trying to be dramatic, but I honestly just felt like I am fighting for my life here against a dog,” he said. “Not just a dog. My dog, right? Like, he’s my dog. We’ve only had him for a little under three months, but, like, he’s my dog.”

How Does Sean Lowe Feel After the Attack?

Lowe stated that he did not “blame” Moose for what happened. He shared that the rescue informed him and Giudici that Moose had some issues in his past.

“I think it’s clear, he experienced a lot of trauma before we got him and had something neurologically wrong with him,” he noted. “Where just a switch flipped and he turned into an absolute killer.”

What Did Sean Lowe Do With Moose?

Lowe shared that his parents came to pick up his kids and he and Giudici made a plan for what to do with Moose.

“I know with what just transpired, obviously I can’t keep Moose in this house. I’ve got young kids, and I’ve got to be concerned about my own safety, so I’m talking to our local animal control, and they connected me with a great officer who happened to have a Boxer,” Lowe said. “He was very sympathetic and we were just talking through the different things. I called our animal adoption agency where we got Moose [and] I was looking at the various no kill shelters. I was just trying to figure out the best plan of action, and this officer actually said, ‘OK, make your calls and then call me back. We’ll figure this out together.’ Like, he was super helpful.”

Lowe added that he and his family “miss our dog as weird as that sounds. He was a really really good dog.”
