Tank looked visibly drained today, and you could tell he will put on a lot of weight overnight after he rehydrates. He overdid it, coming in so low at 133.8 lbs instead of closer to the full limit for the division. This is a pretty basic title defense for Davis, and not one of his tougher ones for him to be coming in so light.

The only thing that makes sense is Tank wants to be lighter, knowing that he’s going to need to box more because of Roach’s technical skills. He’s not going to come to Davis, looking to run him over the way that Ryan Garcia, Isaac Cruz, Frank Martin, and Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero did.

WBA light welterweight champion Jose ‘Rayo’ Valenzuela (14-2, 9 KOs) weighed in close to where he was at for his last fight against ‘Pitbull’ Cruz last August in Los Angeles. Rayo did a lot of moving in that fight, and made it almost impossible for Cruz to put a glove on him. If he fights like that on Saturday night, Russell will have a lot of issues getting to him. This could be a really one-sided fight.

“He’s a frontrunner like everyone else I fought. That’s it,” said Gervonta Davis at the weigh-in, talking about Lamont Roach. “Look at him, he’s showing off. He ain’t have any of this kind of energy any other time. Same old same old, I give the people what they want to see. Explosive knockouts, and s*** like that. That’s what comes with me. That’s what we’re going to see on Saturday night.”
