The New Doctor Who Trailer Introduces His Latest Partner in Time

Micheal

Doctor Who Belinda

The first Doctor Who season with Ncuti Gatwa in the lead role had its ups and downs, but it seemed to be a generally good that left audiences wanting more of him. Fortunately, the show already had another season with Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor locked in, and we’re finally getting another look at what’s to come in April.

After bidding farewell to Ruby Sunday at the end of the last season, the Doctor has found himself a new companion by the name of Belinda Chatdra (Varada Sethu). She’s already got a lot on her plate as a nurse, and when she gets swept up in the Doctor’s latest escapade, all she wants to do is just go back home. But that may have to wait, because there’s a potential mystery surrounding her—why did Mundy Flynn from the previous season have her face, and why is the Doctor crossing paths with both women?

What won’t be waiting are the adventures the two will go on throughout the season. In typical Doctor Who fashion, they run the gamut from the action-packed and apocalyptic to the scary and silly. Not only do the pair find themselves attending an intergalactic music festival, they also get caught up in a planet at war, and uncover a kidnapping plot. One of the most interesting teases is for Mr. Ring-a-Ding, a villain voiced by Alan Cumming who’s done in 2D animation and is ready to leap into the real world. It’s an interesting swing in what looks to be a fun season, which as just as well since the series is approaching the 20th anniversary of its revival and its future has been called into question lately.

Doctor Who returns April 12 with new episodes on BBC and Disney+.
