WBC interim lightweight champion William Zepeda says the purpose behind his facing Tevin Farmer in a rematch next Saturday night, March 29th, is to get a “clear victory” this time in their fight live on DAZN in Cancun, Mexico. The event starts at 7:00 p.m. ET.

The Buzz

With a week to go, there’s not much buzz with fans about seeing the Zepeda-Farmer 2 rematch. Golden Boy should have recognized that fans wouldn’t want to see a second fight between Zepeda and Farmer.

In their previous fight on November 16th last year, Zepeda (32-0, 27 KOs) won a close 10-round split decision, but many fans felt Tevin had done enough to win. The former IBF super featherweight champion Farmer (33-7-1, 8 KOs) thought he should have won, and he wasn’t happy with the outcome.

The boxing public isn’t excited about seeing Zepeda face Farmer, 34, again because it’s a needless rematch. Tevin had his chance last November, got worn down by the body shots, and was forced to hold constantly in the championship rounds to keep from being knocked out.

He held a lot the entire fight, using that as his main strategy to neutralize Zepeda’s offense. In rounds eight through ten, Farmer had nothing left from the pressure, fast pace, and volume of punching from Zepeda. That style of fighting that Farmer uses isn’t thrilling to watch.

Zepeda’s Mission

“We decided to get this rematch. Aside from being ranked #1, because we know Tevin Farmer implies a challenge for me right now,” said William Zepeda to Golden Boy about why he’s taking the rematch with Tevin Farmer next Saturday.

“A challenge to leave the fans with another satisfying fight to prove who William Zepeda is in the division, and securing a clear victory on my record.”
